CARD Board of Directors · Trustee Area 1
I'm Mary Chin, a Chico parent and youth-sports organizer running to make sure our fields, gyms, and parks keep pace with our city and are open to every kid.
Why I'm running
Families are signing kids up for more sports than our fields and gyms can hold. I want CARD to plan for the city we're becoming, and to make sure every kid has a place to play.
Add fields, including turf fields that can host growing sports like lacrosse and field hockey alongside soccer and football.
Indoor sports like volleyball and basketball need gym space too. More courts mean more teams, more practice times, and room for tournaments.
Parents keep telling me there aren't enough good options for kids with disabilities. Accessible playgrounds, fields, gyms, and programs should be part of every plan from the start.
Strong parks and recreation help Chico attract doctors, professionals, and businesses who want to raise their families here. That brings jobs, revenue, and income back into our community.
My record
I started a coed junior high volleyball club. In its first season it served 109 students across all three Chico junior highs, with three teams at each school.
I helped rebuild and restructure our school's PTA. It now raises substantial funds every year for classroom resources, field trips, and teacher accounts.
My two kids grew up in CARD youth sports and on CARD fields. I know what works for families and where we're running out of room.
I run my own business covering Chico's restaurants, events, and local spots. I spend my days talking with the people and businesses that make this town what it is.

I support Mary for the CARD Board because she is exactly the kind of community leader who sees a need and chooses to do something about it. As a chef, educator, advocate, mother, and community champion, Mary consistently brings people together and turns challenges into opportunities. When junior high students suddenly lost access to athletic programming, Mary didn’t simply accept the loss - she worked alongside other parents to build a new volleyball league from the ground up, securing partnerships and funding and restoring opportunities for 6th–8th grade boys and girls throughout our community. Her willingness to roll up her sleeves, collaborate, advocate, and follow through has made a meaningful difference for countless local families. Mary doesn’t just talk about strengthening our community - she shows up and does the work, and that is exactly the kind of leadership I believe belongs on the CARD Board.
She is a go-getter and a proven advocate for kids in our community. She always gives 110%.
Mary is passionate about what she believes in and will always follow through. If she says she’s going to do something, she won’t stop until she succeeds.
Mary’s ability to identify needs in her community and actually do something to change it is truly amazing. Whether it’s running a local business or supporting youth sports, she gives her all to make sure people have what they need. She brings a wide understanding of what families need.
Mary is one of the most dedicated individuals I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. Her whole heart goes into all of the commitments she’s involved in, and she wants nothing but the best for her community and youth. She is such a hardworking individual and a wonderful advocate for the Chico community.
I watched Mary first hand put together Middle School girls & boys Volleyball. She gathered the Coaches, then the Gyms, when before the Kawais to get seed money! When Mary sees a need, she fills it.. ♥️
Mary is an amazing person! Shes values her community and when she sees gaps, she fills them. From being a mom, to starting a volleyball club, to showcasing businesses in the area, she truly does it all. Thank you for what you have done for the community, I am excited to see what you bring to CARD!
Incredibly active member of the community
